The safety and security of the private information you provide to us is at the core of our information management practices and the design of our systems. Our systems are designed from the ground up by lawyers for lawyers, to enhance privacy and confidentiality.
"We" and "us" refers to BarNetwork Pty Limited (BarNet) and this Privacy Policy describes how we handle your personal information when you use our services or interact with us. The "services" are the websites owned and operated by us and the services we provide through them including JADE, JASMINE, Pinpoint Press and for subscribers, JADE Professional as well as OpenLaw and our publishing activities. “Personal information” means information or an opinion from which you could be reasonably identified and can include your name, email address, IP address, address and phone number. We do not require you to provide any sensitive personal information to us (being information about your health, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, trade union memberships or criminal records).

Some of our services are also used by organisations (Enterprise Customers) who subscribe to the services on behalf of their staff. The Enterprise Customer is the administrator of the staff accounts and responsible for the access, settings and permissions of the accounts under its control. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, store and use your personal information. Website and service interactions: We log the IP address(es) from which you gain access to our systems, session information using a ‘session cookie’, information provided by your browser about its capabilities, and the URL which you are attempting to access. This URL will either contain search information or provide a link to a particular page or document in our services. We use anonymised web analytics to understand how visitors use our sites and improve their experience. We do not share personal data via third party cookies.
We may collect information about your computer, phone, tablet, or other devices you use to access the services. This device information includes your connection type and settings when you install, access, update, or use our services. In order to manage and maintain the security of our platforms and systems, we also collect information through your device about your operating system, browser type, IP address, URLs of referring/exit pages, device identifiers, and crash data.
Account information: If you create a free or subscription account with any of our services we will collect the information you provide at registration such as your name, contact information and billing information, plus the details of any alerts or preferences you set up.
Account content: If you subscribe to our services you may have the option to tag and annotate our content and upload your own documents (see our Security Measures Statement for FAQs about JADE account content security).
Service interactions: We will collect the information you provide to us when you sign up to and attend our webinars, subscribe to marketing communications, publish any comments on our websites or submit a support request.
Authors and contributors: If you contribute writing to our websites or publishing activities you may enter into a contract with us and will provide us with your name, address and payment information.
Collection from others: If you are an Enterprise Customer User your organisation will provide us with your name, email address, or other details (if associated with a service/support request, for example).
How we protect your information

If you have an account for our services, we encrypt your account data at rest and in transit, reducing the risk of data breaches and unauthorised access (see our Security Measures Statement FAQs about JADE account content security).
How we use our personal information
We use the personal information we collect from or about you to provide services to you (including sending you marketing communications to you where appropriate or requested by you), process your requests (such as payment) and in our normal business practices such as ensuring the security and integrity of our services and systems.

Sharing your information with others
We may transfer or disclose personal information to our related companies. We may also disclose personal information to external service providers so that they may perform services for us or on our behalf, including our data hosting providers (Amazon Web Services Pty Ltd), logistics providers, technology service providers (including our accounting software provider, webinar provider and email marketing services), and our subcontractors. When you engage with our services these may include our social media accounts at Facebook, YouTube, X (Twitter) and others.
When you are using these external service providers their privacy policies will apply to their use of your personal information. This may include use of your personal information outside of Australia.
Consequences of failure to provide your personal information
Failure to provide personal information to us may render some services unusable by you. If you do not agree with how we collect, store, use and disclose your information as described in this Privacy Policy then you should not access our services.
Overseas recipients of your personal information
We store data and operate servers in Australia. We are not likely to disclose your personal information to overseas recipients.
Your rights
If you believe that we hold personal information about you that is wrong (which includes inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading), or you wish to complain about how we have handled your personal information, you should contact us at help@jade.io

Our services are designed primarily for and directed to users over the age of 18 in Australia. This Policy has been designed in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and other applicable privacy laws. This Policy will be reviewed and updated from time to time to take account of new or amended laws, new technology and/or changes to our operations and services and the changing business environment.
